The bandh called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Tamil Nadu to protest against the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi had little impact, with normal life remaining unaffected.
Shops remained open and transport corporations and private bus operators operated regular services throughout the state, police said. Train services were also not affected, they said. No untoward incident had been reported so far, they added.
The VHP had announced the bandh against what it called the 'politically motivated' arrest of the seer.
