"I tried to find out the element of indiscipline in yesterday's action, but I could not get any," she said in a letter to party president Lal Kishenchand Advani, which she also released to journalists.

"Whatever had to happen has happened. It was perhaps beyond our controlÂ… A daughter was thrown out of house on the day of Dhanteras."

Bharti said she was not concerned if her actions had benefited or hurt the party, which had been built by the workers.

"I cannot harm the party nor do I intend to," she said, adding she had performed her own 'pind daan' (last rites) at Amarkantak on the banks of the Narmada river when she took sanyas in childhood.
