A senior leader of the Awami Action Committee was shot at and critically wounded by unidentified gunmen at Rajouri Kadal in downtown Srinagar on Saturday afternoon.

Police said gunmen opened fire on Moulvi Mushtaq, former Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq's uncle, from a close range while he was offering prayers at a mosque near the AAC headquarters.

He was rushed to the SMHS hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.

Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force and state police immediately rushed to the spot. The entire area has been cordoned off.

Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, a senior leader of the separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference's Ansari group, has been engaging in parleys with the Indian government.
