Train services on Mumbai's western line were disrupted following a demonstration on the railway tracks by residents to protest the overflowing of an open drain beyond Andheri.

Residents of hutments between Goregaon and Malad stations stopped trains shouting slogans and demanding that the drain, which was choked with garbage be cleaned, railway police said.

Train services have been disrupted since 8.45am. Trains from Churchgate are running only up to Andheri.

The Western Railway PRO told rediff.com that authorities are trying to resume services between Andheri and Borivali.

On the central line, overnight rains had resulted in trains running late by a few minutes.

The northern suburbs of Mumbai received mild to heavy rains from Monday midnight till Tuesday morning.

Note: Services on the Western Railway beyond Andheri were resumed around 1030 IST.
