Ruling People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday escaped an attempt on her life as militants opened fire on her motorcade near Aishmuqam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, official sources said.
The firing occurred when Mehbooba was on a visit to Anantnag from where she is likely to contest the coming Lok Sabha election.
The sources said one of the security escorts vehicles in Mehbooba's motorcade overturned as the driver lost control
following the firing.
PDP's chief spokesman Basharat Bukhari while confirming the attack said Mehbooba is safe.
No militant outfit has so far claimed the responsibility for the attack.
