Chief Minister Rabri Devi's official residence is in danger of plunging into darkness with the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) serving a notice regarding outstanding dues of about Rs 1.25 crore.

BSEB, Member (finance) Afzal Amanullah sent a letter to the cabinet coordination committee on March 17 warning that the power connection to the CM's official residence at 1, Anne Marg and her residential office would be snapped if the chief minister did not clear the dues by March

31, board sources said in Patna on Sunday.

The dues cover a period of roughly five years. Though the BSEB regularly sent the relevant bills to the CM, they were not cleared.

The BSEB move is aimed at augmenting its resources.

As per the latest statistics, the state government owes the BSEB a whooping Rs 1,612 crore. Of this, the department of urban development alone has to pay Rs 800 crore.

Among the other major defaulters are the departments of water resources (Rs 273 crore), minor irrigation (Rs 213 crore) and health (Rs 81 crore).

The BSEB has served notices to all these departments in addition to the Beur Jail authorities for clearing their outstandings at the earliest, the sources said.
