Legendary Beatle Paul McCartney is poised to captivate a new generation of young children based on the adventures of two squirrels.

McCartney provides the voice over for Wirral the grey squirrel, who has a romantic affair with a red squirrel called Wilhelmina who was the creation of his late wife, Linda.

The romance between the two squirrels is conducted on a tropical island inhabited by a variety of other animals, including frogs, hippos, elephants and singing monkeys.

The musical backdrop and the story are all neatly packaged together in a DVD, entitled Tropical Island Hum, that is due to be released in the United States and United Kingdom markets in a few weeks time. Miramax is distributing 250,000 copies in time for Easter.

One of the project insiders has been quoted as saying: "The Tropic Island Song title is so infectious you can't get it out of your head. Kids love it because it's such a simple song."

A proud new father of a three-month-old daughter, McCartney is quoted by the distributors as saying, "Its good to have a bit of childlike quality about yourself and I certainly have. I'm still fascinated by things that fascinated me as a kid -- the passion for adventure, humour or romance. Sometimes people grow out of them, or they sort of force themselves out of them, but I've been lucky… because I've been involved with music I've not had to lose those qualities."

Also included in the same DVD is Mccartney's award winning Rupert and the Frog song animation that was made 20 years ago and became the highest selling video of the year.
