Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh on Tuesday told the Liberhan Commission probing the demolition of the Babri masjid that Pakistanis were involved in the incident.
Citing a statement by the then Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh, Kalyan Singh's counsel B B Saksena told Justice Liberhan that according to information received by the Centre at that time, some Pakistani infiltrators had made their way into Ayodhya to carry out the wrongful act on December 6, 1992.
Saksena did not have details but alleged that the Congress too may have been involved in the structure's destruction since that party wanted to bring about the downfall of Kalyan Singh's government.
Kalyan Singh had made arrangements for adequate security around the spot and had personally instructed that the structure be protected at all costs. He had also repeatedly ordered the police not to fire at kar sevaks. He did not have any direct or indirect role in the demolition or in the events leading to it, Saksena said.
Meanwhile, the newly-appointed counsel for the Centre P P Malhotra on Tuesday filed a written application before the Commission saying he is yet to receive the voluminous documents regarding the incident and asked for four weeks time to study the documents and file additional arguments.
