The mortal remains of 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan Shaikh, who was gunned down along with three other alleged Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorists in Ahmedabad on June 15, was on Saturday buried amidst tight police security at Mumbra in Maharashtra's Thane district.

Ishrat's mother Shamima Jahan Shaikh and her six siblings were inconsolable as they bid adieu to the teenager, who used to give tuitions after her father's death to help run the large household.

All vehicular traffic on the road was blocked as local residents thronged the streets. Commercial establishments in the area had downed their shutters as Ishrat's mortal remains were carried to the burial ground in a procession.

A large number of people attended the funeral. In an impromptu action, some people sought donations to help the family tide over the loss of an earning member.

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi, who was among the mourners, alleged that the incident was an attempt to 'malign' the minority community and demanded a probe into her death.
