Tension in Mumbra as Ishrat's body arrives

Tension prevailed in the suburban town of Mumbra, which observed a bandh on Saturday, as the body of Ishrat Jahan Shaikh was brought to her home.

The 19-year-old student and three other men, two of them believed to be Pakistani nationals, were intercepted and killed in an encounter by the Ahmedabad police on the outskirts of city on June 15.

The atmosphere turned tense after her body, accompanied by mother Shamima Jahan Shaikh, reached their Rashid Compound residence in the Mumbra-Kawsha locality at around 8:00am.

The body will be buried at noon, police said adding the situation was tense but under control. A large posse of policemen had been deployed to keep a strict vigil.

Mumbra town observed a bandh for the second successive day to protest the girl's killing. Shopkeepers and residents wore black badges.
