The Supreme Court on Friday allowed Haryana's plea for expeditious construction of the part of the Satluj-Yamuna Link canal that falls within the territory of Punjab.
It also directed the work to be executed by a central agency in view of Punjab's attitude not to implement the court's directive in this regard.
The SC directed the Centre to appoint the agency within four weeks.
The court also directed the Centre to employ an agency to ensure security of workers engaged in the construction of the canal and directed the Punjab government to hand over the area demarcated for construction purpose.
