A local court in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon gave the Government Railway Police custody of filmmaker Kaizad Gustad and his associate Ashish Udeshi till June 10.

The two were arrested earlier in the day in connection with the death of 27-year-old British assistant director, Nadia Khan, at the Mahalaxmi railway station on May 25.

They were charged with causing death due to negligence [section 304 of the Indian Penal Code].

Kaizad Gustad"We have booked them under charges of causing death due to negligence and not taking proper security measures while shooting. They also did not correctly inform the police about the incident and lodged a false complain," Senior Railway Police Inspector Ramdas Mahatre, who carried out the arrest at 0800 IST, told

A lady constable, Darshana Vetti, who was deputed by the GRP at the station during the film's shooting, was also arrested since she happened to have witnessed the accident. The court gave her bail on a bond of Rs 6,000.

"We will also probe whether the motorman knew of the accident," Railway Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Pargunde said.

Nadia was killed when a train hit her from behind while the film Mumbai Central was being shot on the tracks near the Mahalaxmi station.

Udeshi lodged a complaint saying she died in a road accident.

In fact, Gustad and Udeshi told the girl's mother, who is in Britain, that she died in a road accident and took her clearance to transfer the body to that country.

Later, when the truth emerged, the director said they lied in order to avoid legal formalities in getting Nadia admitted to hospital.

Nadia's family members are now threatening to take legal action against the director.

Apart from the action taken by the GRP, Gustad and Udeshi also face the threat of action by the Mumbai police for lodging a false complaint and making false statements.
