The people of Jammu and Kashmir can breathe easy. Bowing to public pressure, the state government on Tuesday stayed the implementation of its controversial order seeking to restrict number of guests at marriage functions but constituted a sub-committee to take a fresh look at the issue.

The government would seek wider public opinion to make the order more purposeful, people-friendly and effective in curbing the extravagance and ostentatiousness at marriages with the support and cooperation of the people at large.
The state cabinet has constituted a five-member sub-committee to examine the entire gamut of the Guest Control Order and make recommendations after considering the matter afresh.
