One person was killed and 33 others, including two paramilitary personnel, were wounded when militants on Monday morning hurled a hand grenade at the sub-district hospital in Baramulla, 55km from Srinagar.

Abdul Rahim Sofi (50) died on the spot when the grenade exploded near the out patient department (OPD) inside the crowded hospital complex, a senior police officer said.

The target apparently was a party of paramilitary Border security force personnel who had come for treatment.

Doctors referred four critically injured persons to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
