Alert: ICMR International Fellowships

The Indian Council of Medical Research announces the ICMR International Fellowships.

ICMR, the premier national agency for the formulation, promotion and conduct of biomedical research in India [ Images ], invites applications from Indian biomedical scientists for the above fellowship awards for the year 2004-05.

Eligibility
The applicant should possess an MD / PhD degree with at least three years teaching / research experience for young biomedical scientists and at least 15 years teaching / research experience for senior biomedical scientists.

The applicant should be employed in a regular position in a recognised biomedical / research / health institution in India.

The age limit is below 45 years for young scientists and 55 years for senior scientists.

The applicant should submit a letter of acceptance from the foreign institute where he / she proposes to work along with a concrete plan of training / research work to be undertaken during the fellowship.

Duration
Three to six months for young scientists and 10-15 days for senior scientists.

Financial support
US $ 1800 per month, a contingency grant of Rs 10,000 and return economy class excursion airfare for young scientists. The senior scientists will be paid return economy class excursion airfare and US $ 150 per day including accommodation subject to a maximum of US $ 1,800.

Format of application
The application format should include the candidate's name, designation and address; date of birth and age; academic qualifications (bachelor's degree onwards); subject area and major achievements in the area of specialisation including the publications in last five years; name / address of foreign institute / laboratory where training is proposed along with a copy of the consent letter of foreign institute; proposed duration of fellowship; brief summary of proposed work (limited to a maximum of 500 words) including the objectives, need to conduct the work in the foreign institute, justification and relevance to ongoing / future research programmes of the parent institute. This should be followed by the signature of the applicant and the date and place.

A recommendation by the head of the parent organisation / institute is essential.

Incomplete applications will not be entertained. ICMR's decision will be final.
