Four persons, including two policemen and a girl, were injured on Tuesday morning when militants lobbed a grenade on the vehicle carrying Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma near a bus stand in Budshah Chowk in the heart of Srinagar.

The explosive fell short of the target and exploded. Sharma was on his way to inaugurate Kashmir's first flyover at Jehangir Chowk, about 100 metres away from the scene of the attack.

A little-known militant outfit Kashmir Freedom Force has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had passed through the same road minutes before the attack.

The foundation of the fly-over, which was completed in a record time of one year, was laid this day last year.

Incidentally, July 13 is observed as Martyr's Day in Srinagar in memory of 31 persons killed in a firing incident outside the Srinagar Central Jail in 1931 during a protest against the ruling monarch.
