Sameer Bhujbal to appear before SIT on Jan 19, says lawyer

Sameer Bhujbal, nephew of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, has conveyed to the Special Investigation Team probing the fake stamp paper scam that he would appear before it on January 19 in Mumbai, in response to the summons issued to him.

Sameer's lawyer Pervez M Rustomkhan told PTI he had written letters to the SIT in Mumbai and Pune on Friday informing them that Sameer would return from the United States of America on January 18 and appear before it the next day.

Sameer was summoned by the SIT last Monday in connection with the investigation into the fake stamps scam.

Sameer, who is in the US on a personal visit, had asked the SIT to give him time till January 19.

The SIT, however, asked Sameer to report to it latest by January 14. But Sameer did not turn up on that day.

The SIT has summoned Sameer after investigations revealed that the principal accused in the fake stamps scam, Abdul Karim Telgi, had influenced senior police and government officials to get some 'unwanted' police officers transferred.

The SIT wants to know if Sameer, a close aid of the then DCM, was aware of such goings-on.
