In a major crackdown, the Mumbai police conducted raids on over 40 nightclubs and dance bars on Tuesday night and detained over 600 bar girls, employees and customers.

The raids, which were conducted in north, central and southern Mumbai, continued throughout the night, police said.

The operation, carried out by all additional police commissioners in assistance with DCPs, was supervised by Police Commissioner A N Roy.

Over 600 people detained following the raids are likely to be arrested and produced in various metropolitan courts in
the city during the day, sources said.

Mumbai police is likely to initiate disciplinary action against the police officers in whose jurisdiction these bars operated.
