India and Pakistan on Tuesday reached a "broad understanding" on the timeframe and modalities for the resumption of talks.
The proposed timeframe for the meetings on different issues was decided during the two days of parleys between Arun Singh, joint secretary, external affairs ministry, and Jalil Abbas Jilani, director general for South Asia in Pakistan foreign office, sources said.
The proposals will be submitted to Foreign Secretary Shashank and his Pakistani counterpart Riaz Khokar, who will meet in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Before flying to Islamabad via Karachi, Shashank said in Delhi: "We are starting the process with sincerity and we hope to continue this on a continuous basis."
