Four militants and a similar number of jawans have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir since Thursday night.

Security forces early Friday foiled a major infiltration bid by militants -- the second after the declaration of India-Pakistan ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a predawn operation, army troops guarding the Line of Control set up a cordon in Bhimbergali area in Poonch district and engaged a group of militants crossing into the state, sources said. One militant was killed in the encounter, which is still on, they added.

Army troops had killed seven militants in the same area on December 17.

Two militants were killed in Sanali top in Surankote belt on Thursday night, the sources said, adding three jawans also died in the encounter.

One more jawan was killed in an ambush in Rajouri district on Thursday night, they said.

Meanwhile, police said the Special Operations Group in a major success gunned down a wanted militant of the Al-Umar Mujaheedin, Rafiq Ahmad, in downtown Srinagar late Thursday.
