Barely 71 days after taking over, Mumbai Police Commissioner Dr Parvinder Singh Pasricha was unceremoniously 'kicked upstairs' as Director General of Police and managing director of the Maharashtra State Police Welfare and Housing Corporation on February 3.
Expressing his 'hurt and humiliation' over this sudden move, Mumbai's former top cop has taken extended leave. The state government says it was a 'routine' transfer. But the Opposition claims the move was politically motivated, with the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party wanting its own man for the slot.
