A group of Dalits in Bihar has filed a case against Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy for ordering a first information report against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.

The case in a Patna court also names Bihar Chief Electoral Officer K C Saha and the officer in charge of the police station in Bihta where the FIR was filed for alleged violation of the model code of conduct.

Lalu Prasad was shown on a TV channel distributing money to Dalit women in Dariyapur and Ibrahimpur villages after the code of conduct came into effect.

Abhay Kumar Choudhary, secretary, Ambedkarvadi Samaj Vikash Parishad, and one of the petitioners, said the police complaint humiliated Dalits.

"It is an act of human rights violation. We have filed the case on this ground under the Dalit Atrocities Prevention Act," he said.

The petitioners, including the Dalit women who were given money, were co-accused in the FIR.
