Wildlife enthusiasts and other tourists visiting Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, are in for a treat as they will now get an option to visit the famed Kaziranga National Park, the home of the famed one-horn rhinos, in neighbouring Assam.
The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation, in collaboration with G L Resorts, is offering a once a week two-day-one-night package to tourists at an introductory rate of Rs 1,325 for an adult and Rs 800 for a child.
Inaugurating the service, Tourism Minister Deborah C Marak said the package is aimed at bringing more visitors to the scenic Shillong from the national forest and vice versa.
The package includes food, night stay in a resort in the national park with a cultural programme in the evening and an elephant ride the next morning before returning to Shillong in the evening, state tourism Director H Sangpliang said.
The frequency of the trip depends on the inflow of tourists during February when the Kaziranga National Park will host its centenary celebrations.
