A group of heavily armed militants attacked a police picket in the hilly Doda district of Jammu region late on Tuesday
night.
Police said the militants descended on village Singhpora near Chatroo and attacked a Special Operations Group picket manned by 12 policemen.
"Eight special police officers managed to escape from the post and report the incident to their superiors in Chatroo village early this morning. When reinforcement reached the spot, they found the four policemen tied up. The militants had escaped with all the weapons -- an LMG, 2 AK-47 rifles, four SLRs, three .303 rifles and a radio set," sources said.
No group has so far owned responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, paramilitary Border Security Force gunned down three motorcycle-borne militants at Sopore in north Kashmir on Wednesday afternoon.
