Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday described the collision between the two passenger trains in Punjab, in which 34 people were killed, as a "brutal murder".

"The two station masters of Bangara and Chak Kalan, and an engineer who allowed the Jalandhar-Pathankot DMU passenger and the Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad Express to move on the same track, will be booked under 304 A (culpable homicide) of IPC," he said at the site of the accident in Mansar, around 40 km from Jalandhar.
After inspecting the site, the minister put the toll at 31 and the number of seriously injured at 16.
