The Maharashtra government will take adequate steps to provide security to Special Judge Abhay Thipsay, who is hearing the Best Bakery case, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told the assembly on Tuesday.
According to reports, the judge has received threatening mails.
The CM's statement came after opposition leader Narayan Rane raised the issue during the adjournment motion.
Leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party legislative party, Gopinath Munde, joined Rane and said that when the Supreme Court shifted the case to Maharashtra, the government had assured protection to all the accused and witnesses.
The CM should call a meeting to review the security measures initiated by the government in view of the threats, Munde said.
