The All India [ Images ] Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Friday appealed to the Muslim community to observe December 6 as 'Black Day' to protest against the demolition of the Babri Masjid [ Images ] at Ayodhya.
Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, AIMPLB secretary Abdul Rahim Qureshi also demanded revamping of the Central Bureau of Investigation, alleging that the agency had been 'saffronised' during the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance government and had committed some 'irregularities' in the Babri Masjid demolition case.
He said 423 people were arrested in connection with the demolition, but all were released. "It is astonishing that not a single person's name was mentioned in the charge sheet," he said.
"The demolition of Babri Masjid is still fresh in the minds of Muslims," Qureshi said and urged the Muslim community to express their anguish by observing a peaceful bandh as some vested interests may take advantage of the situation to create trouble.
Supporting the action of the Tamil Nadu government in arresting Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati of the Kanchi mutt in a murder case, he said the law should take its own course.
