Zaheera Sheikh, the prime witness in the Best Bakery case, will request the Supreme Court on December 6 to order a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the alleged "exploitation" of her by journalist-human rights activist Teesta Setalvad, according to one of her advisors.
The SC has scheduled the hearings of the cases related to the Gujarat riots for December 6.
The Gujarat Riots: The Complete Coverage
Setalvad, who fought an intense legal battle for the Best Bakery retrial, has already applied to the SC for a CBI probe into the whole episode.
The trial is on in Mumbai where Zaheera is scheduled to appear on Thursday.
She has already approached the National Commission for Minorities and Poornima Advani, chief of the National Commission for Women.
The Citizens for Justice and Peace, of which Setalvad is the secretary, claims the case is still strong, regardless of what Zaheera says.
The CJP believes that Zaheera's latest stand that she was threatened by Setalvad and was kept hostage in Mumbai has no evidentiary value.
