Bahujan Samaj Party leader Kanshi Ram's mother, Bishan Kaur, on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking his release from the 'illegal confinement' of party president Mayawati.

The 95-year-old lady has challenged a Delhi High Court order which, through a court officer, came to the conclusion that Kanshi Ram was living at the residence of Mayawati on "his free will and without any pressure".

Seeking release of her son from the "clutches" of Mayawati, Kaur stated in her petition that the High Court declined to interfere with her request to constitute a commission of doctors and experts to ascertain the medical condition of her son.

She alleged that Kanshi Ram was under the "illegal confinement of Mayawati" and that he was being "drugged and sedated" to the extent that he had lost consciousness and was unable to form an independent opinion.

The High Court had appointed one of the registrars as the court commissioner, who recorded the statement of Kanshi Ram. The BSP leader stated that he was living at C-1/11, Humayun Road, on his own free will.

After taking note of the registrar's report, the High Court had dismissed Kaur's petition.
