The Congress Party has accused former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti of concealing information pertaining to the Hubli riots case against her from the Election Commission.

"Uma Bharti has in fact concealed information pertaining to the case against her in Karnataka, as she did not mention it to the Election Commission while filing her nominations for the assembly elections in MP late last year," Digvijay Singh, AICC General Secretary, told a BBC Hindi programme last night.

The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister also accused Bharti of showing disrespect to the national tricolour, saying the Congress would lodge a complaint soon in this regard.

"Uma Bharti is showing disrespect to the national tricolour. It is a violation of the Flag Code and we would lodge a complaint soon in this matter," he said.

Asked why some ministers in the UPA government like Union Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar were indulging in "unnecessary activities," the AICC General Secretary defended him. "I think there is nothing wrong in highlighting a fact that has always been there."

"There is no doubt that Veer Savarkarji did take part in the freedom struggle initially. But later on, he apologised to the British for his role and was awarded with pension by the Britishers for this act."
