Manipur students burn books

About 50 students were arrested on Monday for attempting to handover text-books to Manipur Governor S S Sidhu as part of an on-going state-wide agitation to demand withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

When they were prevented from entering the Raj Bhavan, the students burnt and tore hundreds of books before the Raj Bhavan gate.

The arrested students were later released.

Paramilitary forces and police were deployed in large numbers near the Raj Bhavan and chief minister's office
complex.

Students of L M S Law College in Imphal boycotted their final examination beginning Monday.

The examination was later cancelled. The college authorities said it was up to the Manipur University to decide fresh dates for the examination.
