In a curious development, negotiator Sheikh Hisham Al-Dulaimi has demanded that superstar Amitabh Bachchan or actress of yesteryears Asha Parekh make an appeal to facilitate release of the captives.

"The demand that Amitabh Bachchan or Asha Parekh make an appeal is one of the demands put forth by Dulaimi," Rana Abu-Zaineh, spokesperson for Kuwait and Gulf Link Transport Company, employer of the hostages, told PTI over phone from Kuwait today.

Dulaimi has made the demand as he claims he is their "fan" and that their appeal would influence him to seek release of the Indians, she said.

The spokesperson said the company could not help out on this demand, which had also been referred to by Dulaimi a few days back, and that it had to be tackled independently.

The father of Antaryami, one of the three Indian hostages, requested Amitabh Bachhan, Dharmendra and Asha Parekh to make an appeal for the release of the hostages.

Ram Murthy, Antaryami's father, was speaking to mediapersons after he came to know of Dulaimi's demand.

In response Asha Parekh, former censor board chief, said she was willing to appeal for the release of the three Indians.

"If the government asks me to do so, why not? I am most willing. If it saves someone's life, I will be ready to speak to them," the actress told PTI.

To a query whether she would be ready to fly down to make the appeal, she said, "I don't think they want me to fly down. They wanted to speak to me on the telephone and I am ready to do so."

"This entire appeal has come out of the blue," she said.

Reacting to the appeal, Bachchan said he was ready to do that a hundred times but before that he should get an official intimation in this regard.
