Senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Saturday formed his own political party called 'Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir.'

Geelani's parent organisation, Jamaat-e-Islami, had last week authorised him to launch a new party for the "resolution of the Kashmir dispute"

Talking to newsmen at his Hyderpora residence, Geelani said his new party will "draw inspiration from Islam."

"Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir will continue a peaceful struggle for right to self determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

Geelani said the new party favours tri-partite talks involving India, Pakistan and Kashmiris to resolve the Kashmir tangle. He said the talks should be focused on Kashmir and "not waste time in discussing the fringe issues."

He also said his party favours the respectable return of migrant Hindus to their homeland.

Geelani, who till recently was heading a faction of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has ruled out his return to the parent organisation.
