The last session of the house was held about four months ago. Dave, appointed by the erstwhile National Democratic Alliance government, was succeeded by Shivinder Singh Sidhu who took oath on Friday.

Manipur Peoples Party Chief O Joy Singh has been pressing for a session of the assembly to discuss the current turmoil in the state triggered by widespread violent protests over the killing of Manorama Devi allegedly by Assam Rifles personnel and lifting of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the state.
