The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the trial in cases pertaining to the massacre of 110 people in Naroda Gam and Naroda Patiya during the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat.
Hearing a petition that sought the transfer of these outside the state, a bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal, Justice S B Sinha and Justice S H Kapadia, while staying the trial, issued notice to the Gujarat government on the petition filed by an NGO - Citizens for Justice and Peace.
Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate Ram Jethmalani alleged that the Gujarat police was hand-in-glove with the accused, which was apparent the manner in which the FIRs had been registered.

The court has so far transferred two cases - Best Bakery and the Bilkis Yakub Rasool gang rape - to Maharashtra and has stayed trial in eight of riot cases that were brought to the notice of the National Human Rights Commission alleging gross negligence by the state police in protecting the victims and witnesses in these cases.
