The toll in the floods in 19 districts of Bihar rose to 591 on Monday with 48 more deaths reported from Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and Samastipur districts.

The overall flood situation in the state, however, improved with major rivers showing receding trends.

Over 25 million people in 9,334 villages continued to reel under the impact of  the devastating floods.

UNICEF has sent six mobile medical relief teams comprising doctors, post-graduate medical students, auxillary nurse midwives (ANMs) and social workers to six flood-affected blocks of Muzaffarpur district.

A central team is arriving in Patna Tuesday to assess the damages caused by floods.

Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi will submit a  report of the state government's assesment of  damages by floods. Sources said state government assesses that  property and crops of over Rs 8,000 crore have been damaged.
