Tripathi's aunt Kamala Devi and her husband Yashodanand Mishra were asleep when they were attacked.

When their daughter Annu raised an alarm, the assailants escaped after locking her in a room, a senior police officer said.

Kamala Devi was former UP minister Shyam Narayan Tewari's sister.

Mishra was a retired workshop superintendent of the Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College in Gorakhpur.
