Amritapuri is located 110 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram. The ashram, which once consisted only of Amma's family home, is today a self-sufficient township that houses Amma's many devotees.

Amma memorabilia -- priced on the expensive side -- is available on her web site. Amma's devotees say the money thus earned, as well as the money gathered through donations, is used to fund charitable activities.

Amma says: "Knowledge devoid of devotion is like chewing stones."
