Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati said an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party was possible if the saffron outfit rectified its mistakes.
At a press conference in Lucknow, she said, "The BJP is not my enemy."
Asked why she had had a change of heart, she said, "When I am willing to pardon (Samajwadi Party chief) Mulayam Singh Yadav provided he tenders an apology for what he did on June 2, 1995, then why not the BJP?"
She was referring to the assault by Yadav's partymen on her supporters and legislators at the state guesthouse eight years ago.
The BSP vice-president also ruled out the possibility of a tie-up between the BSP and Congress for the upcoming assembly polls.
She warned of bloodshed in UP if any attempt was made to demolish the statues of dalit icons established during her regime.
"The dalits will not remain mute spectators if the statues of their icons are demolished," she said.
