The Customs Intelligence Unit at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad seized Rs 1.21 crore in foreign currencies on Friday morning from a Dubai-bound passenger.

The money was concealed in mithai boxes which the passenger -- identified as Mohammed Aziz -- was carrying in his handbag. He was arrested before he could board EK flight No 525 bound for Dubai.

The seized currencies included US dollars, UAE dirhams, Omani riyals, Kuwaiti dinars, Saudi riyals and Singapore, Canadian and Australian dollars.

The customs officials are probing Aziz's antecedents.
