Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced an inquiry into the delay in filing of charge sheets in connection with cases related to the fake stamp paper racket.

The arrest of former minister and ruling Telugu Desam Party legislator C Krishna Yadav under MCOCA by the Maharashtra police has drawn considerable attention to the racket in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to newspersons on Tuesday night after a high-level meeting with Home Minister T Devender Goud and top police officials, Naidu said 10 cases had been registered in the state since 1999 in connection with the scam.

The state police had seized fake stamp paper worth Rs 5.5 crore (Rs 55 million) and arrested several accused, but is yet to file even a single charge sheet, the chief minister revealed.

He announced an inquiry by Additional Director-General of Police Kamal Kumar into the delay in filing a charge sheet.

Earlier this year, Naidu claimed, he had approached Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani for a probe by the CBI.

He also claimed that as early as 2001, he had written to then finance minister Yashwant Sinha seeking tightening of security measures at the India Security Press in Nashik in the wake of the fake stamp paper racket.

Naidu refuted reports pointing to the involvement of two ministers, several legislators and senior police officers in the racket.
