Eminent tabla player Shyamal Basu died at his residence in Kolkata following a cardiac arrest on Sunday, family sources said.
Basu, 69, is survived by wife and a son.
The maestro, whose performances with legendary vocalists like Bade Gulam Ali and Amir Khan brought laurels and accolades from music lovers all over the world, was forced to leave tabla after a cerebral stroke over a decade ago.
Born to Pandit Ananta Nath Basu, he was groomed by legendary musician and vocalist Gyan Prakash Ghosh and Tarapada Chakraborty.
