Just three days before Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav seeks a trust vote in the assembly, nearly 40 Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs on Friday held a closed-door meeting in Lucknow and decided to form a new party.

The MLAs are likely to meet Speaker Kesari Nath Tripathi on or before September 8, senior dissident leader Virendra Singh told reporters.

He said they would soon float a new outfit called Loktantrik Bahujan Party.

The dissident MLAs later met state Samajwadi Party's UP unit president, Ram Saran Das, and pledged support to Mulayam.

BSP Legislature Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya had on Thursday filed a petition before the assembly speaker seeking disqualifiation of 13 MLAs who had asked Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri to invite Mualayam for government formation.
