In a surprise move, the United States commission probing the 9/11 attacks visited Pakistan on Tuesday and held talks with officials and important non-government personalities.
The commission headed by former New Jersey governor Thomas Cain toured Pakistan as part of its preparations to finalise a report on the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001, Pakistan TV channel Geo quoted US officials as saying.
There was, however, no official announcement about the commission's visit to Pakistan.
It is believed that commission chose to visit Pakistan, as it was the only country to have recognised Taliban government in Afghanistan and some of the Al Qaeda militants who took part in the attacks transited through Pakistan.
Besides probing the reasons and lapses for the attacks, the US Commission is also expected to suggest measures to prevent such attacks in future.
