Ph D programmes at IIT, Roorkee

The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee invites applications for its full-time/part-time Ph D programmes in the following departments:

1. Alternate Hydro-Energy Centre, Architecture & Planning, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering, Hydrology, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Paper Technology and Water Resources Development Training Centre.

2. Biotechnology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Physics.

3. Humanities & Social Sciences and Management Studies. 

Eligibility:

a. Masters degree in Engineering/Technology/Sciences/Humanities & Social Sciences and Management in respective discipline or equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 6.75 on a 10-point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute or 60% marks in aggregate. For Science discipline, candidate must have qualified GATE/NET etc.

b. Applicants with B Tech degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 on a 10-point scale or equivalent or 70% marks may be considered.

c. Applicants for admission for full-time studies who do not possess an M Tech degree or equivalent in Engineering/Technology in the relevant field must have a valid GATE score (at least 75%) for Engineering/ Technology/Science disciplines or must have qualified national level fellowship examinations such as NET (JRF/LS) conducted by UGC/CSIR for Science/Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines.

- Relaxation in eligibility requirement in terms of minimum CGPA up to 6.25 or 55% marks in aggregate be given to SC/ST, physically handicapped applicants and those with MA English (for admission to Ph D English in the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences) as per Institute regulations.

How to Apply:

Application form can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (PGS&R), Academic Section, IIT Roorkee, Roorkee 247677 by sending a demand draft of Rs 250 in favour of the Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and a self addressed envelope of 23cm x 17cm.

Application form can also be downloaded from the website www.iitr.ernet.in/admissions and sent to the Assistant Registrar (PGS&R) along with a demand draft of Rs 200 in favour of the Registrar, IIT Roorkee, payable at Roorkee.

Last date for submission of application form: October 31, 2003.

ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India invites nominations for the third ICSI National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance. The ceremony is scheduled for December 15, 2003 at New Delhi.

Eligibility:

a. All the entities presently listed with paid-up share capital of Rs 30,000,000 and above.

b. Unlisted companies that send their nomination for the Award.

Selection criteria:

The companies will be short-listed on the basis of scores secured in areas such as:

a. Board Independence.

b. Board Systems and Procedures.

c. Transparency and Disclosures Compliances.

d. Consistent Shareholders Value Enhancement.

e. Stakeholders Value.

f. Corporate Social Responsibility.

g. Sustainability.

On the basis of the above a questionnaire has been framed, to elicit information from participating companies about compliance with the norms of corporate governance in letter and spirit.

Eligible companies must send five copies of the current Annual Report, which together with the questionnaire and notice of annual general meeting will form the basis for evaluating the governance practices in the companies.

a. The questionnaire designed by the Institute and supported by the annual report along with a copy of Notice of Annual General Meeting will be the main source of analysis.

b. Any other document the jury may require.

Awards:

Award for best companies: On the basis of above parameters, 25 companies will be short-listed. The Jury would finalise two awards for companies, the best-governed company in the private sector and the best-governed company in the public sector. Company Secretaries of the winner companies shall also be awarded.

Lifetime Achievement Award: A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be conferred on one of the eminent corporate personalities for translating excellence in corporate governance into reality.
