A woman has filed a first information report with the cyber cell of the Mumbai police alleging that her husband had put up her photo and phone number on a pornographic Web site.
The man, a California-based software engineer, had married her in June 2002 and taken her to the United States.
But the couple developed differences and the woman came back to India in February 2003.
After two months she started receiving obscene calls. One of the callers told her that he had got her number from a porn site.
She checked the site and found that the photograph was the one that her husband had.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjaysingh Yepure said on Thursday: "The only thing we have against him is her statement that the photo was with him. A week back we sent him an email, but he did not respond. We plan to call him up and ask him about the case."
One option that the police have is to request the Indian consulate there to get in touch with him.
The police have also approached the engineer's family in Nashik and asked them to call back their son.
According to sources, they said their son was innocent and would come back and cooperate with the police.
