The Kerala cabinet on Wednesday approved the agreement reached between leaders of Hindu and Muslim communities to establish peace in Marad and also decided to seek legal advice on the possibility of recommending a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the May 2 violence.

Briefing reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Chief Minister A K Antony said General Administration Secretary Vijayakumar has been authorised to co-ordinate the activities of the various departments for the speedy implementation of the proposals contained in the October five agreement, which include enhanced compensation to the kin of victims and rehabilitation of families that fled Marad after the carnage.

The development package for Marad would be taken up in a time-bound manner and would be monitored by the ministers for Water Resources, PWD, Electricity, Health and Fisheries.

On possibility of recommending a CBI inquiry into the May 2 violence, which left nine people dead, the cabinet decided to seek the advocate general's advice.
