Indo-Pak truce comes into effect

In keeping with the ceasefire agreement, guns along the Line of Control [ Images ], International Border and in Siachen Glacier fell silent at midnight on Tuesday.

This is the first formal truce between the armies of India [ Images ] and Pakistan since the outbreak of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir [ Images ].

The directors general of military operations of India and Pakistan -- Lieutenant General B S Takhar and Major General Mohammed Yousuf -- spoke over hotline on Tuesday and wrapped up the truce deal.

The announcement was made simultaneously in New Delhi [ Images ] and Islamabad [ Images ].
