The Asian Development Bank would lend about Rs 1170 crore for the development of infrastructure in the eight northeastern states.
The money would be routed through the Union urban development and poverty alleviation ministries to upgrade facilities for water supply, sewerage and sanitation, solid waste management and roads, official sources said in Shillong on Tuesday.
The proposal was prepared after ADB held consultations with key officers of the eight states and the secretary of the North Eastern Council.
As per the draft proposal, Assam would be provided Rs 436.8 crore, Manipur Rs 197.5 crore, Meghalaya Rs 143.1 crore, Tripura Rs 138.6 crore, Mizoram Rs 100.3 crore, Nagaland Rs 64.3 crore, Sikkim Rs 53.9 crore and Arunachal Pradesh Rs 35.4 crore.
The draft proposal is expected to be finalised by January 2004 after which a detailed project report would be prepared. The amount would be cleared at the ADB by September 2005 and loans would be sanctioned by March 2006.
