Fake stamp papers to be legalised

Fake stamp papers circulated by Abdul Karim Telgi will be legalised through an ordinance, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh [ Images ] said after inaugurating the 19th India [ Images ] Economic Summit, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and World Economic Forum, in New Delhi [ Images ] on Sunday.

"The case will be handed over to the CBI tomorrow," Singh said.

The minister said the decision was taken after consultation with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee [ Images ] and his deputy Lal Kishenchand Advani [ Images ].

Singh said the government was also considering a process to completely do away with stamp papers.

"But it will take some time. We are serious about it," Singh said.
